How do you make our customers happy?
Team Cloud Compute is responsible for providing the compute and shared infrastructure for bol. Our customers are different than you might expect, we provide tools and services to our internal application engineers and not to the bol. retailer customers. The team provides compute infrastructure for bol. application teams in a variety of environments in the public cloud (GCP).
Our goal is to provide compute infrastructure that is highly available and highly scalable.

What are our products?
We refer to our products as our OPEX (Operational Excellence). Our primary product offering is compute infrastructure in public cloud (GCP). The team provides building blocks like managed Kubernetes, storage solutions, for our 1000+ software engineer colleagues. The team works to secure and innovate these products, providing new functionality and keeping the platform up to date to meet our business needs.
- Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) is our biggest compute offering, allowing software engineer teams to deploy their applications in a self-service way while our deployment tooling provides them with the means to do this in a secure and compliance method.
- Application Secret Manager that gives our users for a way to store, manage, and accessing sensitive data (API keys, passwords, and certificates) with enhanced security, versioning, and audit logging, enforces security and compliance policies at admission time in Kubernetes, reducing risk and operational overhead.

• CICD: Gitlab
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform, Puppet, Google Config Connector
• GitOps: ArgoCD
• Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes (GKE), Helm, Kustomization, Docker
• AI Tools: Gemini/Claude Code
• Datacenters/Cloud: GCP & some on-prem RHEL servers
• Observability & Monitoring: Prometheus, AlertManager, Thanos, Grafana, ELK, Nagios.
• Programming: Python/Go

Build the core compute platform that powers thousands of workloads across bol.com, enabling developers to ship features quickly and reliably.
Deliver scalable, secure, and cost‐efficient cloud infrastructure using Kubernetes and modern cloud‐native technologies.
Create a seamless developer experience by providing intuitive deployment, runtime, and observability capabilities used daily by dozens of engineering teams.
Solve complex distributed‐systems challenges at massive e‐commerce scale, ensuring stability, performance, and zero‐downtime operations.
Drive innovation in compute capabilities, from new workload types to smarter autoscaling and improved platform resilience.

Operating at scale
Our team is responsible for ensuring the continuity, availability and performance of the foundational parts of hundreds of applications. This role is for you if you have experience working in highly trafficked environments.

Mastering Kubernetes Expertise
We're heavily invested into Kubernetes as our primary tool of choice for managing compute workloads. You feel fluent in the topics of containerization, virtualization, deployment automation, networking and security. You have real world experience working with k8s.
