Join us in making a difference
As a Frontend Engineering Lead for the Content team, you'll help make our hotel price comparison more informative and useful for millions of daily users. You'll coach and grow a small group of software engineers while staying hands-on with the code — sitting right at the intersection of product strategy and engineering. trivago is a place where ambition and support go hand in hand — we hold high standards and genuinely invest in each other's growth. Leading here means giving your team clarity on priorities while adapting your approach to how each person grows best. You'll also model what it means to lead with an AI-first mindset, investing time daily in AI-powered workflows and helping your engineers do the same. If you're ready to pair technical craft with real people leadership, we'd love to hear from you.
How you'll make an impact:
- Coach and mentor a group of 3-4 Software Engineers, providing feedback and identifying training opportunities so they keep growing and use the full range of their talents.
- Contribute hands-on to engineering projects and be a role model of good engineering practices.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to combine different perspectives into a joint plan of action.
- Define team OKRs and translate strategic priorities into actionable, well-executed plans for the Content Frontend team — including fast, test-driven iterations that ship in days, not months.
- Adapt your leadership style to meet each team member where they are — building confidence through delegation and empowering people to grow into greater ownership over time.
- Foster a trust-based environment where candid feedback flows freely, diverse perspectives are heard, and healthy challenge leads to better outcomes.
What you'll need to thrive:
- You have prior experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, strong knowledge of HTML/CSS, and hands-on experience with React — ideally also Next.js and GraphQL — along with comfort working in a fast-paced, A/B-testing-heavy environment.
- Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring a team — with a track record of helping others grow while delivering results, and confident, direct communication skills to work with senior stakeholders.
- The ability to adapt your leadership style situationally — knowing when to direct, when to coach, when to support, and when to delegate based on each team member's needs and readiness.
- A genuine learning mindset — you approach challenges with curiosity, seek out feedback, and continuously look for ways to develop and grow.
- A performance mindset — you set ambitious goals for yourself and the team, with the determination and resilience to follow through and achieve them.
- A hands-on, daily commitment to pushing AI tools to their limits in real workflows — and a drive to enable your team to do the same, treating AI fluency as a core leadership expectation, not an add-on.
Not ticking every box? We still want to hear from you. Apply, tell us what motivates you, and you could be a great match — now or in the future. Your application does not need to include a photo. This is the recruitment process you can expect for this role (subject to modifications):
- Hireflix: one-way video interview
- Screening call with the recruiter
- Technical interview with the team (live coding, ~60 min)
- System Design interview with the team (60 min)
- Collaboration interview with stakeholders
- Final interview
